Ahoy Matey with Fun Background Technique

Hello, Whimsy fans!  It's Andrea back with you to share a card featuring Ahoy Matey and a cool background technique.

How fun is that kitty?!  I love his expression (My daughter would say he looks like the "meh" emoji)!  After I had stamped him with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, I colored him with Copics and then used my handy-dandy ScanNCut to cut him out.

I had seen an Instagram video where the cardmaker used watercolor and plastic wrap to create a really cool background, and I thought it would make a great "swimming pool" for my kitty.  I used a wet brush to dampen a panel of watercolor paper and brushed on some blue watercolor.  I scrunched up (very technical term here) a piece of plastic wrap about twice the size of my watercolor paper and, while the paint was still wet, laid the plastic over the panel.  I placed something heavy on top and left the panel to dry.

Once my panel was dry, I die-cut it with one of the Stitched Border Die Trio to create my pool shape.  I also die-cut the lip of the pool from white cardstock with the same die and adhered it on top of my pool.  Onto a kraft cardbase, I stamped the Farmhouse Shiplap Background stamp with tan ink and adhered my "pool" on top.  I stamped a sentiment from Ahoy Matey onto a strip of black cardstock with Versamark ink and white heat-embossed it.  I popped up my sentiment and kitty with foam tape, adding some shine with Clear Sparkle Overlay and Glossy Accents, and finished with some Clear Nuvo Crystal Drops.

Have a great day!
