31 Nights of Halloween - Night 1

 

Hello, Whimsy fans!  Are you ready for the funnest blog event of the year?!  

It's the one we at Whimsy wait all year for, and we hope you're just as excited as we are!  So, sit back and get ready to be inspired (and maybe a little frightened, too).

 

It's Andrea with you tonight, and I have a cheeky, interactive card to share.  It features the just-released Monster ATC Closeups stamp set.  When I saw the fun mummy in the set, I couldn't resist having a play on words (I love puns).  I'm hoping my British friends get a chuckle at least.

For this card I first stamped the mummy image and colored him with Copics.  I set him aside to work on the interactive portion of my card.

I first stamped the Farmhouse Shiplap Background onto kraft cardstock.  Using the partial diecutting technique, I cut a door into the panel with the Slimline ATC Windows Dies.  I scored between the cut areas to create a hinge for the door to open and close.

I distressed the edges of the panel with the same brown ink I used to stamp the background.  Next, I embellished the panel with images from the Fuzzy Spiders set.  I first stamped the webs in white pigment ink and then stamped the spiders and sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black ink.  I used a white gel pen to fill in the spiders' eyes.

My sentiment largely comes from the Cute But Psycho stamp set.  I masked the bottom of the sentiment and stamped the top half with Versafine Onyx Black ink.  I then stamped "mummy" with the Alphabet Mini stamp set.  Next, I stamped the rest of the sentiment from Cute But Psycho, masking the top portion first.

Finally, I adhered the kraft panel to my colored image and attached it to a cardbase.

31 Nights of Halloween - Night 28 - Special Guest Ashley Dearie

Tonight we welcome Ashley Dearie back to the blog as she shares some fun, Halloween party ideas.

 Hello, again, crafty friends; Ashley Dearie here!  I’m so excited to be returning to the Whimsy Blog tonight as a guest designer for Whimsy Stamps’ 31 Nights of Halloween Celebration, Night #28!  We’re inching closer and closer to the the big night – All Hallows’ Eve.  I know our kiddos are super excited!  But Halloween is looking a lot different these days, and I have some fun inspiration in store for those celebrating indoors this year, and simple treats kids of all ages will enjoy.  

Our youngest son loves insects, spiders, and everything creepy crawly (not me! yuck!), but even I’m in love with the cuddly little eight-legged guys in Whimsy’s Fuzzy Spiders stamp set!  They’re SO cute, I just had to create some spidery fun I knew our little guy would love.  

I paired the smaller spider in the set with my favorite ‘Spider Cider’ sentiment from the Digital Haunting Halloween Sentiments, which is also included in the Spirited Sentiments stamp set.  I printed out the sentiments in a variety of spooky colors and cut them into circles using dies similar to the Pierced and Stitched Circles die set.  I stamped the spiders in black ink and backed the tags with black cardstock.  

I attached each tag to mini bottles of sparkling apple cider (a.k.a. ‘spider cider’) with black and white baker’s twine.  I chose the grape-apple flavor to emphasize the Halloween theme with the purple hue (but any cider will do).  I stamped the ‘Yikes’ sentiment (also from the Fuzzy Spiders set) in coordinating colors onto paper flags wrapped around striped paper straws to make drinking easier for little hands.  

For an additional little treat, I filled mini cups with brightly colored sour gummy worms and added little ‘Creepy Crawlies’  labels using another sentiment from the Fuzzy Spiders set, stamped with additional spiders in coordinating colors.  And each cup received a festive wrapping of spider designs from the Hocus Pocus 6x6 Paper Pack.  To continue my theme, I added pipe-cleaner and candy spiders to the top of each cup lid.  Each surprise also got a coordinating little mini card also made using spiders and webs from Fuzzy Spiders set and patterned paper from the Hocus Pocus Paper Pack.

Hello, Whimsy friends!  We're super excited to welcome Amy Young back to the blog today!  

Hello again!  

Amy here with my second guest designer post for Whimsy Stamps. I mentioned last week that I couldn't wait to dive into a Halloween card, so, of course, I went all out in the spooky-cute department for my card today. 

This frightfully fun scene actually combines three newly released stamps from Whimsy: Haunted Parlor, Spooky Kitties and Fuzzy Spiders. Black cats and Halloween just go hand in hand, or should I say hand in paw? LOL, anywho... so I stamped and masked this Spooky Kitty with the broom then stamped the Haunted Parlor right over top. Once the mask was pulled off, it looked like the kitty was caught standing there red handed as he 'borrows' the witch's broom for a midnight ride all on his own. The parlor itself was decked out in traditional Halloween colors, and the spider webs (from Fuzzy Spiders) were added at the very end of the creative process to help push the kitty back into the scene a bit more. That and the addition of a sentiment really helped pull this fun story all together. :)

Once again I would like to thank Whimsy Stamps for inviting me to join the fun this month, and I can't wait to see what you have planned for Christmas!

31 Nights of Halloween - Night 20 - Special Guest Bobbi Hart

Hello! Bobbi here and I'm guest designing this month for Whimsy Stamps during its "31 Nights of Halloween!" I'm sharing some Halloween madness today with an out-of-this-world look using the following Whimsy Stamps sets:

• Kooky Monsters clear stamp set
• Moon Background Rubber Cling Stamp
• Fuzzy Spiders clear stamp set
• A Boy's Dream clear stamp set (for the "out of this world" phrase, only)
• Going Catty clear stamp set (for the "have a" phrase, only)

Card Details

What would Halloween night look like in outer space? Perhaps there are gigantic spiders ready to attack from behind. Monsters everywhere you look and green goo...lots of goo just oozing out of the craters. Well, that's my take anyway! Let's take a closer look at this out-of-this world Halloween Night.

 

To make this card, I started by splattering white ink on a 5" X 7" black card front. I added a few additional larger dots of white using a Uniball Signo White Gel Pen. I stamped, Copic-colored and fussy cut the spiders, witch hat, monsters, goo and the moon. The moon was adhered to the background and the spiders and monsters were layered on it. The purple monster was "popped up" by adding foam tape to the back of the image for a little dimension.  

 

Finally, I stamped, cut and adhered the phrase, "Have an out of this world HAPPY HALLOWEEN" by piecing phrases from various sets. I used the "have a" phrase from the Going Catty stamp set and simply added an "n" to the "a." The phrase "out of this world" is from A Boy's Dream, and the "Happy Halloween" is from the Fuzzy Spiders stamp set. The finished card front was adhered to a 5" X 7" card base to complete it.

31 Nights of Halloween - Night 11 - Special Guest Bobbi Hartmann Lemanski

Tonight we are honored to have the talented Bobbi Hartmann Lemanski guest designing with us!

I'm so excited to be guest designing this month for Whimsy Stamps.  When I saw the funny cat in the Going Catty stamp set, I was immediately drawn to this set. The expression on this feline's face is priceless and perfect for a humorous Halloween card. I could just envision this scaredy cat looking out a window and seeing a dressed-up, scary trick or treater. Here's my take on that scene...

Cracked Glass Window

I wanted the recipient to feel the intensity of the cat's fear, so I created a broken glass window to match those large paws and fearful face. Using an oldie, but goody technique called cracked glass, I created the feature window. To make the window, I stamped and colored the cat and added a curtain to the left along with a yellow wallpaper background to create the look of the inside of a house. I covered the entire window front with Versamark Watermark ink using the direct-to -paper method (stamp the pad directly on the cardstock). Quickly, I covered the inked area with Ranger Ultra Thick Embossing powder and heat set it with my heat tool. I repeated these steps three times to create a three-layer, thick glass. Next, I put the frameless window scene in the freezer to completely harden. While the window was in the freezer, I worked on the rest of the card.

 

Exterior Scene

I stamped, colored and fussy cut various images for the exterior scene including two spiders from Fuzzy Spiders and the witch holding the cat from Going Catty. I also hand drew some shrubs for outside the window. I used Copics in the following color families: yellow-greens (YG) for greens, violets (V) for the purples, cool grays (C) for the gray/black shades and a bit of red (R) and yellows (Y) for the reds/oranges.

  I needed to create the house exterior for the window and the outside sky. The house siding was created using strips of gray cardstock. I added lines using a fine-tip black marker and Copics in gray shades to mimic woodgrain. The strips were added to a black piece of cardstock, allowing a thin strip of black to show through between each faux siding board for dimension. The sky was created by splattering diluted white ink on black cardstock. The house was adhered to the card front background, and the bushes were added to the bottom edge to create the scene design. Next the exterior creatures were added - the witch, spiders, and cute little orange pumpkin.

Finishing the Card

Now it's time to finish the window for the house. After removing the window glass from the freezer, I lightly bent the embossed cardstock by the paws to create glass cracks by the paw points. I always love "cracking the glass." It's so fun to see it happen. After the glass was broken, I added a few cobwebs using a Versafine Black permanent ink over the clear embossing. Lastly, I added the four-pane, framed black window to the glass front. I made this by punching four squares out of a black piece of cardstock. The completed window was layered over the house siding. I heat embossed a subtle phrase over the shrubs in black and a feature speech bubble with the phrase "trick or treat?" to the exterior to complete this Halloween card. This is a 5" X 7" card so there was plenty of space to create this scene. This could easily be done on a smaller card size by simply overlapping and simplifying the elements, too.

31 Nights of Halloween - Night 9 - Special Guest Antonia Florence

Welcome to Night 9 of our 31 Nights of Halloween!  We have a special treat for you this evening - a fun video by the talented Antonia Florence!  You can watch the video below or over on her YouTube channel.   

For her cards Antonia used our Fuzzy Spiders stamp set, Spider Web Frame Background stamp, and Tiger Designer Paper Pack.

Antonia stamped and masked the witch hat from Fuzzy Spiders before creating her eery background with Distress Oxides.  She added the Spider Web Frame Background to up the creepy factor and then stamped that fun spider.  After removing the mask, she colored the hat with Copics.  She stamped sentiments from Fuzzy Spiders and added accents with a white gel pen and a black glaze pen.
