Hello! My name is Tami and I am so happy to have been invited to be a guest designer for Whimsy Stamps 31 Days of Halloween. I made a card today with a technique I enjoy. I used the Slimline Filmstrip Die, some masking paper and the Halloween Scream stamp to make a progressive scene in the film strip.
I thought it would make it fun if it was a scene from an old time scary movie. Let's get started with how to do this.
First, use the filmstrip die to cut a mask. For my mask, I cut some Judikins Masking Paper out of the filmstrip.
While I had the die out, I also cut two filmstrips from the acetate that had been colored with Alcohol Ink. Set the filmstrips aside. This gives you a choice and you can use the extra for a second card if you want.
Cut a piece of Distress Watercolor Cardstock that is the size of your slimline card - 3.5x8.5. Center the filmstrip mask over the piece of Heavystock and adhere.
Position the mummy stamp along the right side of the top frame and stamp with Distress Archival Ink in Ground Espresso and Black Soot. Then stamp it in the middle of the middle filmstrip frame, and along the left edge in the bottom frame.
Lastly, cut a mask of the mummy out of masking paper by stamping it and fussy cutting around it.
Before adding color, stamp the BEWARE sentiment in the bottom left corner of the first frame.
Thank you so much to Whimsy Stamps for the opportunity to be a gest designer with for their 31 Nights of Halloween event! I had fun making this old Scary movie card.
Thanks, Tami, for this fabulous tutorial and awesome inspiration!

LOL! Such a super cute design (it's his mouth!) with the film strip, but thank you so much for the tip on coloring the filmstrip, that's just so smart. I would have used lame cardstock.
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan! You can practically hear the scream right?!
DeleteSuch a cute idea using the film strip, those always fascinate me ☺️ great idea for using acetate & coloring it with alcohol inks. What a fun Halloween Whimsey card!
ReplyDeleteThank you! The acetate idea was a last minute inspiration and It’s so easy.
DeleteOh my gosh, I LOVE what you did with the filmstrip!! And I love your techniques with the stamps. This is so cute... I want to have it in my house for Halloween decor!!!
ReplyDeleteAwww! Thank you Kathleen! It would be fun to set out as a little decor piece. Love that idea!
DeleteI love the use of that filmstrip die! The idea to mask off so it looks like the graveyard is in the “background” is so clever. The stamps are so cute and your use of the monochromatic color scheme brought me right back to old cinema! Thanks for the inspiration Tami!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Kim!! I was hoping it would do that. I’ve been into masking lately for some reason, I guess because the results are so fun.
DeleteHalloween is my favorite time of the year. This card is perfect. The use of the colored acetate is inspired. I too would have used plain cardstock. The acetate adds so much. This card is perfect too, since the old classic horror movies just came out on blu ray this week. This would be a perfect invitation to a watch party for these movies. I need to practice my watercolor technique. Thank you for the inspiration. Now to get to work.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!! I love that idea of using it as an old scary movie invitation. What a fun invite for a frightfully fun evening. I hope I’m invited! 😊
