31 Nights of Halloween- Night 13

 

Hey there!  Katie here today with lucky #13 for the 31 day countdown to Halloween. Here is my card for today: 

For my card, I started by stamping Going Batty stamps on Copic friendly paper.  I colored them and cut them out and set them aside.  Next, I die cut the Slimline Stars die in black and mounted it on a bright green paper.  I had a basic circle in white and I used Persimmon and Mustard Distress to create a moon.  In front of that I added clouds from the Up in the Clouds Die set that I added Soot Distress too.  Next, I added in the bits of sentiment and popped up my colored images using foam tape.  Pretty easy peasy. 

I love these cut images and this fun scene.  Anything slimline is just fun too!  Here are a few different close up shots for you.

Tuesday Tutorial- Haunted House Portrait

 Hey there friends!  Katie here today with a fun tutorial for you that is mostly die cutting! Here is what we will be making today: 

Let's start with our supplies, you will need:

Cardstock- Black, Color of your Choice, Kraft, White (Copic Friendly)

Designer Paper- Haunted Paper Pack or Vampire Paper Pack

Dies- Elvira Moonlighting, Comic Burst, and Slimline Card Builder

Other- Versamark Ink, Gold Embossing Powder, Copics (E51, E53, R14), White Pencil, Gold Thread, Snips, Glue and Foam Tape

First, Start with your base cardstock.  It should be the colored layer and measure 4.25 X 5.5 (I mount mine on white to use less colored cardstock).  Next, cut your black cardstock to 4 X 5.25.  Die cut the Black portion using the Comic Burst Die and poke out all the bits.  Then take a bit of whatever DP you like for the background and use the same die to cut out the middle.  Adhere these layers together with the DP in the center, then the black and the color behind.  You should see the color through the Comic Burst cut outs. 

Set this aside and work on the frame.  First take your small bit of Kraft paper and die cut out the oval from the Slimline Card Builder set. Cut out the middle and trace around the outside of the die with a pencil.  Then remove the die and cut out the traced portion.  

Next, you will smush versamark around the frame.  Dump some gold embossing powder on and heat it.  YOu can use a different color from gold if you prefer, I used this to make an antiqued frame.  It doesn't have to be perfect either, because that creates the antique look if you have gaps.  Then cut out a small portion of DP and use this die again.  The center portion becomes the background of your frame. 

Next, you are going to work on Elvira.  Use the die and cut her out twice, once in black and once in white (Copic Friendly).  Color the face with your skin toned Copics and the eyes with red (or another color if you prefer).  On the black portion, use your white pencil to add white to her hair. 

Next, put her together inside your frame and cut off any excess of her gown.  Then you can place foam on the back side which will hold the center to the frame and hold down the gold thread that you will use to "hang" your frame.  

Mount this onto the center of your card.  Then mount it on your white base and you are done.  You can add sentiments or other embellishments but I feel like it is pretty perfect as is. 

This is a pretty easy card to replicate with mostly die cutting, so if you like to send out a lot of Spooky cards for Halloween, this is perfect.

I have 3 cards for you today featuring these companies' awesome products:

My first card is so bright and fun and super appropriate given the times.  I had fun making it.  This one is made with a white base and using a stencil and the Therm O Web (Rina K. Designs) Neon Glitz Glitter Gel Hello Yellow.   Once that dried, I added a strip of green paper across.  Then I added the Connected Oval Frame Die cuts in three colors and layered on top of one another.  I stamped the sentiment from the Ant You Sweet stamp set.  Then I stamped the lemons from the set and colored them using Copics.  I also came in and used a paint brush to add a bit more glitter gel to the lemon.  Lastly, I added some yellow sequins. 

For my second card, I started by adding Festive Desert Paper Pack to my white base.  Then I die cut the Arched Window Die using cork.   Then I stamped some cacti from the Cute Cacti stamp set.  I colored them with my Copics.  I used more of the Therm O Web (Rina K) Neon Glitz Glitter Gel, both Hello Yellow and Poppin' Pink on the pots.  I used tape to mask it off and added glitter gel.  When it was dry, I peeled the tape off and mounted them on the card.  I stamped the sentiment on the banner and attached it to my card. 

My final card is fun and bright.  For this one I used a white base.  Then I cut a bit of Gina K Where's the Party Foil Mates and used the Summer Rainbow Foil sheets on top of it.  Then I used distress inks over the top to add color to the background.  Next I cut a bit of white cardstock using Wavy Pierced Rectangle die set. On that I stamped the images from Happy Sky Stamp set.  I stamped another and colored it with my Copics and mounted it with foam tape.

Special Guest - Katie Brooks

Happy Monday!  It's Katie back with you today!  I really love some of the latest Whimsy releases; they are fantastic.  When I first saw the Frosty Wishes set and the characters' cute expressions, I was all in!

Here is how I made this card: 

• I started by stamping my images onto Copic-friendly paper.  I spent a good amount of time coloring them just so and added highlights with a gel pen.  Then I fussy cut them out. 
• I came back in and stamped the sentiment on the sign after I had colored it. 
• Next, I picked some patterned paper that I thought would work well with the images.  This selection is from Simple Stories; I loved the different-colored flakes and how they pulled out the colors from the images. 
• I got out some hillside dies from my stash and used them to cut various bits of white paper.  I used my Cool Shadow Copic (BG10- which is also on my snowman) to add a little color to the hills. 
• I mounted the various layers of snowbanks with foam tape.  
• Then I slipped my images where I wanted them in the layers. 
• Lastly, I added some embellishments to add a little extra sparkle. 

This snowman, his face, it just makes me happy.  I kinda wanna step into the scene and hang out with him and that cute penguin. They are so happy to see each other!

Special Guest - Katie Brooks

Happy Monday friends!  I am super excited to share with you that I am Guest Designing with Whimsy Stamps this month!  I am so thrilled and honored; they have adorable images!  Here is my first of two posts.

Aren't these images cute?!  I love them so.  And I thought this would make the perfect guy birthday card.

Here is how I made it:

• I stamped my images from A Boy's Dream onto Copic-friendly paper and colored them with my Copics. 
• I used my ScanNCut to cut them out and set them aside. 
• Next, I used distress inks to create the sky.  I used mostly blues (Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire, and a bit of Blueprint Sketch), but put just a bit of purple in the center (Wilted Violet) so I could pull out the color later. 
• Using a white re-inker and paintbrush, I added a few flecks to the background to make it look a bit like the Milky Way. 
• I die cut a basic circle and used distress inks to color it yellow with a bit of orange (Mustard and Spiced Marmalade).  Then I added in some craters using my Copic marker and used my fingernail to distress the edges.
• I mounted that in the corner using foam tape.  
• Then I mounted all the other ships and planets as well.  I used an enamel dot for the end of the antenna on the larger ship. 
• I added these Itty Bitty Black Star embellishments just for a little extra sparkle. 
• After I mounted the panel onto some navy cardstock, I pulled out a scrap of purple to stamp the sentiment on.  I added the strip to the top with foam tape. 

This view gives you a better look at some of the finer details.  Also, I originally picked blue for my alien because my daughter likes blue.  But in the end, I decided that I wouldn't give her this card, but would save it for my brother because space isn't her thing.  I have other stamps for her! :)
