Hi
everyone, Heidi here, I’m very excited to bring you another set of cards as a
guest designer on the Whimsy blog! I created today’s cards with some of the
gorgeous Whimsy Stamps digital stamps, digital sentiments and digital papers.
This time, instead of my colored pencils, I used my alcohol markers to color
the images. So, let’s get started!
I first
printed the adorable Whimsy Stamps “Penguin Flies“ and “Penguin Loves
Watermelon“ digital stamps onto some Copic friendly paper (I stamped the
Penguin Flies twice). Then I started coloring these cuties using the
following Copic Sketch marker colors (I used the same markers on both images):
C00, C4, C7, C9, W00, W1, Y000, YR14, YR18, YR01, R20, R22, R08, R29, G40,
YG17, G94 and B0000.
When
the coloring was done I fussy cut around the images leaving a small white
border. I also colored the second set of balloons and also fussy cut them out:
later on I will adhere these extra balloons on top of the first set to create a
little bit more dimension on the card.
Next I
started working on the background panels: for this I printed two of the papers
from the Whimsy Stamps digital “Poppy Fields Paper“ collection and I die cut
them with a stitched square nesting die in the size that I wanted. I also die
cut some slightly larger mats from matching green (for the Penguin Loves
Watermelon image) and red (for the Penguin Flies image) card stock using a
slightly larger square nesting die. These square panels I adhered together
using liquid glue.
Then I
started working on my sentiments: after resizing I printed the Whimsy Stamps
“Vintage Sentiments“ digital stamp set onto white card stock. I die cut banner
shapes from these sentiments using the largest die in the Crealies Double Fun
number 1 banner die set and colored the paper slightly with the W-Copic markers
to make them less bright white.
Now I
have all the elements for my cards ready and I can put the cards together: on
the Penguin Loves Watermelon card I adhered some matching ribbon (adhering at
the back using regular tape) to create some distance between the background
poppy’s and the penguin image and then I first adhered the penguins to the
cards using one millimetre thick foam tape (and for the balloons on the Penguin
Flies card a second layer of one millimetre thick foam tape for the additional
balloon layer) and then I adhered the banners to the project also using one
millimetre thick foam tape, folding them to the back and adhering there using
regular tape.
To
finish these cards I adhered the combined panels with the colored image on top
onto a white linen textured card base and I adhered some Cartwright’s Sequins
in the color “Satin Gold“ in different sizes using Ranger Medium Matte for some
extra interest in the background.
And
that’s today’s project! I love these adorable penguins and it was so much fun
to combine them with the other digital products that Whimsy Stamps carries (if
you haven’t done that yet you really should go and check them out)!
Thank
you Whimsy Stamps for having me as a guest designer, I loved working with these
gorgeous products!
