Anybody else feel a little bit like this elf - balancing too many things - at the holidays? I know I certainly do! This adorable
Balancing Elf, designed by Krista Heij-Barber, came out last year, but I didn't get a chance to use him. When Whimsy released the new
Kinetic Dies, which have a dangle feature, I knew I had to combine the two. This image is just perfect for this technique!
I colored that cutie patootie with Copics (colors listed below) and cut him out with my ScanNCut and then set to constructing the dangle.
The scariest part of this process was cutting apart the image I had just colored! The picture above shows the dies I used from the
No-See Kinetic Basics Die Set. I die-cut them from 110 lb. white cardstock to make sure the element was sturdy.
The above pictures illustrate how I assembled the gift portion of the dangle. I attached a small foam square onto the circle and placed the tag-looking piece on top, sliding the foam square through the piece's opening. I then adhered the foam square to the back of the gifts.
I adhered the long section of the tab piece to the back of the elf, and my dangling element is complete! I failed to get a photo, but I added another foam square and die-cut circle nearer the top of the gifts for support. All that's left is putting my card together!
Using the
Hand Stitched Nested Rectangles Dies, I die-cut some red patterned paper and adhered it to a white card. I die-cut a white oval with the
Basic Stitched Ovals Die Set, attached the elf, and affixed the oval to my card. When adhering the elf, I did not put any adhesive on the dangle, including the part adhered to the elf, as I wanted to make sure the dangle moved freely. I die-cut a banner with the
Bold Banners Dies, stamped a sentiment from
Christmas Scene Builder with
Versafine Onyx Black ink, and clear heat-embossed it. I popped up the banner with foam tape and added some sparkle to the gifts, along with some glittery enamel dots. There's a short video below of the dangle in action.
