Now, I know we are in the middle of June, but, once we have passed Mid-Summers Day on 21 June, my mind ALWAYS starts wandering towards That Thing On 25 December We Don't Mention. Bleurgh! And because you can be sure that even though I think about it for many months, I also bury my head in the sand about it for many months too.
So, come December, when really, I need to have a lovely big stack of cards ready prepared for That Thing On 25 December We Don't Mention, I find myself rushing around, promising myself that next year will be different. Ahem!
To ease myself into the process of making cards for That Thing On 25 December We Don't Mention, I thought I would share a Winter Birthday Card. Yes, you read that right. After today, I will not be making anything vaguely That Thing On 25 December We Don't Mention related until approximately 17 December...
Hello everyone! Welcome to May Saturday Spotlight guest artist feature, where each month our guest will bring you inspiration using our newest Clearly Whimsy Stamps!
For this month's Saturday Spotlight, the talented Jenn Shurkus has created a gorgeous card using the Ocean Journeys and Ocean Journeys Sentiment stamp sets! You can find these in the Whimsy Stamps shop here.
Jenn has created a nautical beauty here... which is no surprise because she is uber-talented and a true beach girl at heart! I love her cluster of hanging buoys along the left side of the card; I live in a coastal community in Maine and I see buoys exactly like this all the time, so this really made me smile! And her watercolor details really add to the nautical feel, which is so important when creating a themed card like this.
Let's hear a bit more about this card from Jenn, shall we?
Hello Everyone!
You may not "know" me, but trust me when I tell you I am a lover of all things ocean and nautical. I actually recently moved back to Cape Cod.
I was wicked excited to be able to create with Nina-Marie's Ocean Journeys and Ocean Journeys Sentiment set.
I wanted the buoy's to be the focal point of my card and I thought it would be so fun if they would look like they were really hanging off the card like you see in shipyards.
I started by stamping out a bunch of the different buoy's in Versafine Onyx Black and embossed with Clear Detail Embossing Powder. I watercolored them with Distress Inks (Candied Apple, Lucky Clover, Blueprint Sketch and Fossilized Amber). I then fussy cut them out and used a small hole punch to put a hole at the top of each one.
For the card background I did the "Ink Smooshing Technique" on Distress Watercolor Cardstock and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink. I just love creating backgrounds this way and I love how unique each of them end up being.
For the sentiment I wanted to be sure it really stood out, so I also embossed it. It's really amazing how much the clear embossing powder makes the sentiment truly pop!
I wanted to give the card a weathered look. So I inked the edges of everything with Tea Dye Distress Ink and a Mini Ink Blending Tool.
I then strung up all of the different buoy's. I put a little piece of foam tape behind each one so I could swing it the way I wanted and have it stay where it looked best.
I just love all the texture this card has and the unique layout. The sentiment is so sweet and I can't wait to brighten a friends mailbox with this card!
Thank you so much Whimsy Stamps for having me as a featured designer and I hope I have inspired you to create a fun nautical card! I can't wait to see what you link up below!
A HUGE thank you to Jenn for her amazing, detailed tutorial, sharing how she created this fun card! Be sure to stop by her blog to see more of her creative work... she rocks!

It's Shannah here today to share some Whimsy Inspiration with you!
My card today features the gorgeous new Whimsy 'Summer Breeze' 6x6 Papers and Enamel Dots,
which were the perfect match for these cheeky little sea creatures from Krista Heij-Barber
called 'Snappy Birthday'. This set comes with all these funny little sea creatures along with the sentiment, balloons, stars and streamers for a
fun Snappy Birthday card. The papers, enamel dots AND the adorable
stamps are available right now at Whimsy Stamps.
I
chose a side-step card so I could fit all my cute little creatures on,
and also to show off these awesome Whimsy papers.
The images are stamped in Momento Tuxedo ink, coloured with Copic
markers, then fussy-cut so I could arrange them onto the card. I added
Stickles to the small stars and the water bubbles for some extra shine.
And of course I finished with those fabulous new Whimsy Enamel Dots!
Even though this paper pack is a party theme, I thought the bottom sort of looked like waves. See it?!
I stamped the sentiment in Island Indigo and the sail boat in Ocean Tides ink by Papertrey Ink. I added the enamel dots in the matching colors and matted the main piece onto a piece of Ocean Tides card stock and then onto a white card base.
That is all from me for today! Thank you for stopping by. Have a great day!
Hello friends! It's DT Vicki here with another fun CAS creation to share with you today!
Nothing says SUMMER like a nice cool glass of lemonade, but I really like a good picnic during the Summer as well, so I thought I'd sort of combine the two together to create this card:
Don't you just love this month's new release?! I think they're great for making up some fun Summer type cards! I have used the newly released "Squeezed" clear stamp set and coordinating dies on this card and colored them in with my copic markers. I have added a touch of glitter to portions of the lemons and lemonade and then arranged them and glued them onto the fun red and white gingham pattern paper.
To make the "checkered table cloth", I have cut the paper off in a triangle shape and then on two of the edges, I used the Whimsy Shapeology Basic Border Trio Diesto cut the design. I then used the Stitched Border Trio Dies to make the stitch lines above the die cut edges.
Before attaching the picnic/lemonade arrangement to the card base, I took some tumbled glass distress ink and the ink foam blending tool to create a light background. I added some foam tape to the picnic/lemonade arrangement and attached to the center of the card.
Lastly, I've stamped the sentiment in black at the top, rounded two of the corners with my corner chomper and added some enamel dots from the newly released "It's a Party" enamel dot pack.
