Some tips for a scrapbook layout

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all having a great week. Here in Brazil it's a big holiday as of tomorrow, it's our Carnival. At my family we don't celebrate or go to parties as in some other cities - also because we live at the very South of Brazil, which has a big European influence and not so much Carnival celebrations :)
We take this holiday (5 days) to spend more time with family and friends and I use it to put my scrapbooking in time.
Today I would like to share with you some tips about how I create a layout and then define where to add my coloured stamp image.

* 1st: If I am using bright/strong colors, I prefer a white or cream background. This also looks great when we add black and white pictures as it gives a nice contrast to our page

* 2nd: Almost always I use a sketch from my archives or challenge blogs, magazines, or I draw my own - this is to make sure the page has a good design in terms of balance

3rd: I think I've mentioned it before here: volume. To me layouts need layers lol. Its ok if you don't like it, but this is how I create and add texture to my pages, so it depends on your style if you add bulk or not :)

4th: I choose the patterned paper and embellishments (or most of them) before and then I color my image. This way I make sure the colors match. The other option is doing the other way around: I colour the stamped image and then start choosing papers and embellishments that matches them

5th: To decide where I will add my stamped image, I first finish the layout and then look at it to find the spot that seems to me that will draw attention. I like to add it together with other embellishments creating a little "cluster" as I like to add volume to my pages.

I hope you enjoy these tips!

So here is the layout I have created with the gorgeous Posey stamp that can be found here.

And here a close up on my coloured image. (I used distress inks)

Wishing you all a great weekend!

xoxo

Spring is coming

Happpy happy Thursday everyone!  It's my turn (Shelby) to bring you a little bit of inspiration today:)
Spring is just around the corner (hopefully) and with Spring comes the rain showers.  These adorable pair is too stinkin cute and are perfect for bringing in the April showers.
The fantastic stamp is from the fab Crissy Armstrong and is called, I Will Carry You and the sentiment is also from January's release called Everyday Moments.

Thanks for swinging by today, and I hope the rest of your day is wonderful.

Crown

Hi :)  Kathy here with something a little bit different to show you today.
I have been loving using this crown die Simonne designed on my cards but it occurred to me that it would also make a wonderful brooch.
My youngest daughter's birthday is a bit over a month away and I thought a crown brooch with the guests names on them might be a wonderful little gift for the girls to take home in their goody bags.

With this one I actually used my daughter's name (because we won't work out the guest list until closer to the date) and I know she'll definitely want one too of course :)

So here's what I did :
  1.  Used computer to print name onto cardstock.
  2.  Aligned and stamped crown from Fairy Tale Dreams
  3.  Cut out crown using Crown Die.
  4.  Cut out 4 more crowns from same cardstock.
  5.  Used crystal effects (or Glossy accents) to "glue" crowns together.  I completely covered a crown with it and placed another on top.  I actually had 2 stacks of 2. I let them dry and then glued these stacks together plus glued the top one on and let it all dry.  Then put the jewels on and put crystal effects all over the top and on the sides too.  Wait for it to dry.  Turn over and cover the back with crystal effects and placed brooch back on it (adding a little more CE if needed). And again wait for it to dry and the brooch is done :)
  6.  Cut cardstock and stamped sentiment from Everyday Moments.  Added lines to top and bottom using ruler and black journaling pen.
  7.  Punched 2 holes in card to attach brooch.
I think for the "real thing"  I will print on the back :
Thanks for sharing my birthday with me.
And then get my daughter to write her name underneath.

These would also make wonderful magnets, made in exactly the same way.
And the die would be great to make place cards for a party, party bag decorations, to decorate little notebooks as a party favour....

So many possibilities!

Thanks for dropping by for a look today.
Hopefully I've given you some ideas of other ways to use this fantastic die :)

Kathy

Whimsy Inspiration - Emily

Hi Everyone!

It's Shannah here today to share my card from our latest Whimsy Stamps New Release!

For this card I used the adorable new "Emily" by Wee Stamps.
With 3 beautiful little nieces I'm a sucker for cute little girl cards... but they are really into their 'pinks and purples', so for something new I decided to have a play with some different colours! ;)

I chose my colours around some pretty Kaisercraft 'Marigold' papers, and coloured my image using Copic markers. I mounted my image on layered panels of the patterned papers, popped up for extra dimension.

To see more details (including which Copics I used) please visit my Blog "Embellished Expressions"!

Hope you have a happy day!

Emily

Hi there, today I am showcasing a stamp from the last release - the adorable Emily by Sylvia Zet for Whimsy Stamps.  Isn’t she just the sweetest little lady?  Coloured with copics and pencils and then given a shabby look with Frantage embossing powder.

Once upon a time

Happy Thursday Whimsy Fans! Ellie here today!

Today I am sharing a inky card with you, created by stamping only, and a little bit of cutting. I love coloring images, but once in a while it is nice to get inky finger too.

This card was super easy to make, and I am trying to explain in a few steps how I did it, in case anyone is interested.

Supplies used:
Stamp set: Once upon a time
 3.75x 5 " white card stock
4.75x 11 aqua card stock (score in the middle)
distress inks (mustard, broken china, blush pink, tattered rose)
versafine onyx black ink
basic gray ink
ink applicator tool (like this one)
Whimsy slider 1 die
glimmer mist
post it notes

Step 1:
Using your post it notes add a straight border around the white card stock
Using your ink applicator tool, apply distress (or other ink that you have on hand) onto the white card stock. Be sure to start on your scratch paper (or your post it note) and move in circular motion onto the white card stock for a smoother look. Do this with all the inks you are using. I used broken china, rose, and mustard for this.
Then I stamped the sentiment several times using tattered rose ink onto the paper.

Step 2:
Remove post it notes.
Stamp the fairy in versafine onyx ink onto the white card stock. A good idea would be to heat emboss the fairy (I didn't do that here.)
Stamp the dragon in gray. (I didn't want him to stand out too much that's why I didn't use black!)

Step 3:
Stamp your sentiment onto some white card stock scrap, and cut out using Whimsy's ribbon slider 1 die and die cutting machine.
Cut a strip of colored card stock (matching the card base) to fit through the holes of the ribbon slider die cut.
Slide paper strip through die cut and adhere to card front.

Step 4:
Spritz card front with glimmer mist for some light sparkle.
Adhere to card base.

You don't have to use distress inks, I find that it works just as well using SU inks, and will probably work with most inks available.

By the way, are you a facebook user? If yes, we'd love to have you join our Facebook Fan Page. We have started a new Facebook challenge, and this is the card I created for the challenge. We have a simple theme this month - something new. I hope you'll all join us, Denise is giving away a fabulous prize!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope I inspired you with my creation.

Sweet Emily!

Hi, Deb here!
Here is one of my cards I created with the recently released January Whimsy Rubber Stamps.
I used the stunning Wee Stamp Emily coloured with prismacolor pencils and the sentiment stamp Love Tiles stamped with Distress Ink Walnut Stain and then layered.
Thank you for dropping by!
