It's a Birthday Celebration!

Marshmallows and Coffee, Background Tutorial

Hello crafty peeps!  I thought I would share a little tutorial with you all today. Ok, so a lot of you probably have already seen this done or know how to do it yourself but just in case I took some photos as I went through the process of applying this background.

First I stamped Marshmallows and Coffee, a Time 4 Tea stamp, with Memento Tuxedo Black and used a liquid masking fluid to mask her.  It is applied with a paint brush.

Next I embossed different sized snowflakes around her.  I just used an iridescent powder so they wouldn't be too bold.  This basically masks the white paper underneath anyway so you don't really need to use a white embossing powder- but you can. 

Your masking fluid should be dry by now but if it's not you will want to wait until it is for the next step.  I have used Distress Ink by Tim Holtz in Antique Linen and a blending tool to apply.

I thought it need a little more definition and so went back over the outer edges with Walnut Stain, another Distress Ink.  Then you simply gently rub the masking off of your stamped image.  You can do this with your finger or a soft cloth if you prefer. I'm lazy and just used my finger.  Then you are ready to color!
