Tuesday Tutorial - Copic Coloring Polka Dot Pals Syeda

Hey there!  It's Tricia with you today sharing a Copic coloring tutorial using Polka Dot Pals Syeda stamp set.  I stamped the image onto Neenah 80 lb. cardstock and then trimmed the image out.  I always like to start with skin tones.   I love to see the image start to come to life as you are coloring.

Face and arm:  E000, E00, E21, E11, R20
Pig: R30, R11, R32

I typically do two layers of color and really depending on the color I swap back and forth from light to dark or dark to light.   With colors that tend to bleed, I will use the dark to light method so I don't lay down too much ink.   I have found as long as I keep the marker area wet, I get a better blend.

For her outfit, I knew for sure that I wanted a red apron and paired it with a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt.   Of course, she needed some fancy boots to go with her outfit, I colored them as if they were a pair of Ugg's.   I had a little of the red bleed over into the T-shirt.   I color on top of a stack of papers and when a mistake happens I use my 0 to lift the color.   Once I use the Colorless blender, I will push the paper down and the papers underneath will absorb the color.

Apron and Headband: R22, R24, R27, R29, C0, C1
T-shirt: C0, C1
Jeans: B95, B97, B99
Boots: E30, E31, E35, E37
Hair: YR21, YR24, E99

To finish off the image I added some details with a white gel pen.  A few polka dots for her apron pocket and then I used the gel pen to add highlights to the image.

For my main card panel, I stamped a card base of light aqua cardstock with the new Criss Cross Gingham Background Rubber stamp with some aqua ink.   I cut another panel of light aqua cardstock with the largest scalloped oval from the Spring Ovals Die Set.   I cut some white and green cardstock with the next largest die.  I just love the die cut flowers around the die cut and the detail that it adds.   I trimmed the green cardstock down with the Wavy Edgers Die set.

I used a sentiment from the Happy Sky stamp set and stamped it onto the smallest Zig Zag Stitched Rectangles Die Set.    I added a flower created with the No See All Seasons Tree Die set.

Thank you so much for joining me today!

Special Guest - Anita Madden

Good morning, friends.  It's Anita here, and I'm so excited to be guest designing for Whimsy Stamps today!  They have amazing stamps, dies, and other products perfect for cardmaking.

Today I'm using the Candy Mouse clear stamp, Starring Hearts 6x6 Paper Pack, and the Wavy Edgers Die Set.  I used a blending brush to add Spun Sugar Distress Oxide Ink to the base of my card.  I used a die from the Wavy Edgers Die to cut a piece of paper from the Starring Hearts 6x6 Paper Pack, and I adhered that to the top of my card.  I used Versafine Onyx Black Ink to stamp a sentiment from the stamp set.

I stamped the image onto Neenah cardstock and colored it with Copic markers.  I fussy-cut the image and used a white gel pen to add some highlights.  I used a black glaze pen on the mouse's eyes, and I added Nuvo Crystal Glaze to the mouse's nose and teeth, and also to some of the candies.  I used 3D Foam Squares to adhere the mouse to my card.

Copics Used:
Mouse - C5, C3, C1; E04, E02, E01, E00, E000; B000; 100
Sweets - R59, R37, R35; R32, R30, R01; E43, E42, E41, E40; E29, E25, E23; C3, C1

I love this adorable image!  Not only is it perfect to make Valentine's cards, but it can also be used for other occasions.  This would be such a sweet card to send as a thank you or birthday card, or to simply let someone know that you're thinking of them!

Thank you for stopping by.  I hope you have a beautiful day!

Hugs, Anita

Whimsy Stamps and Tombow Collaboration - Day 1, Post 2

All week long Whimsy Stamps and Tombow will be joining forces to bring you some amazing inspiration combining products from these great companies! Be sure to visit both companies’ blogs each day this week to see all of the incredible projects the designers have created AND to enter the giveaways!

I used a variety of Whimsy and Tombow products in my card today, both obvious and behind the scenes.

For instance, I used one of the Tombow ABT Pro Alcohol Markers Purple Tone markers for the sky. The chisel tip made quick work on that expanse.

Another behind the scenes way I used Tombow was to stamp the Whimsy Winter Sports beaver then draw in lines on the inner tube using a Mono Drawing Pencil 4H. I had read recently about the different hardness ratings for pencils, so thought I would give something other than a number 2 a try.  The 4H worked a treat--exactly what I was looking for with thin, light lines.

I colored up the inner tube using ABT Pro Alcohol Markers Purple Tones then went over the pencil lines using a Tombow Mono Drawing Pen 03. This size is my favorite when it comes to pens as it matches many outline thicknesses of the stamps I use. I also used the 03 pen to make his pupils bigger. Ca-ute!

For the rest of the image, I used Copics.

To complete the card, I finished up the card base layers using Whimsy Mountain Majesty and Wavy Edgers. I adhered them using MONO Adhesive Permanent. The sentiment is stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on one of the Quick Strips.

Christmas Mice

Happy Monday! Jeanette here and I am super to share this new card with you!
Whimsy Stamps has so many gorgeous new Winter/Christmas themed products that it is hard to choose! I have to admit that this set was first because I could not resist these sweet mice from the Very Mice Christmas Clear Stamp set.

The expressions on their faces are so sweet! I stamped the image using Memento London Fog ink so that I get a softer look. It isn’t “no-line” coloring but it almost is!  I colored with Copic Markers and then went over some of the areas with colored pencils to deepen some of the shadows.  Always use your pencils after your Copics; otherwise you will ruin your markers.

Originally, I had chosen another piece of patterned paper for this card, but after having completed the coloration, I realised that it was too “busy” and was actually competing with the image.  I found this paper instead, and I think it ties in with the wee mouse’s scarf and compliments the image without overpowering it!

The paper was cut using one of the dies in the Wavy Edgers Die Set.  I absolutely love the pretty scalloped curve and how it looks at the top of my card.  I then used my favorite Christmas Large Word Die to create my sentiment.  I cut it out twice and adhered them together before adding to my card.  I love the extra dimension.

Here’s a close-up of these adorable mice!

ThermOWeb & Whimsy Stamps Collaboration Day One

This week Whimsy Stamps and ThermOWeb are partnering for a fabulous week of inspiration and prizes!  All week long designers from both teams will be sharing ways to add foils and more to your projects using products from ThermOWeb and Whimsy Stamps.  Read to the end of this post to find out how you can win!

I’m thrilled to be part of this special collaboration! I’ve been a fan of ThermoWeb (and Whimsy, of course!) for ages and ages so had LOTS and LOTS of ideas on what I wanted to do.

I started by foiling a piece of TW toner sheet with TW aqua foil. (A little aside: I’ve tried out a variety of different foils and have found TWs to work the best for me.) I die cut that with one of the Wavy Edgers dies. I did the same to cardstock I had sponged with Distress Oxide Peacock Feathers. You can see I also sponged the card base with Distress Oxides and spattered the lot with water.

Next I used the TW Memory Tape Runner to adhere the foil and sponged cardstocks together. Isn't that shine amazing?  I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to use the runner along the curves.

I stamped the images from Arrgg Pirates and Whale of a Time using Memento Tuxedo Black and colored them with Copics. I love how the Whale of a Time dolphin turned out. So pretty in pink!

The sentiment is stamped with Versamark and embossed with Ranger White Super Fine Detail Embossing Powder.

My second card uses a Deco Foil Cobwebs and Cauldrons Clear Toner Sheet with Spring Green Deco Foil. I cut that down to card front size before foiling. Beneath is a panel of watercolor paper colored with Brushos.

Check out that shine! I colored up the Creepy Clown using bright Copics. I have to admit I was a bit freaked out coloring him up. I couldn't help but think of American Horror Story: Carnival. Shiver.

The sentiment is embossed and die cut with one of the Quick Strip dies. I love all the different shapes!

Would you like to win a $25 gift certificate to Whimsy Stamps?  To enter, leave comments on all of the collaboration posts on the Whimsy blog this week.  One winner will be randomly chosen from all of the blog posts, so the more posts you comment on, the better your chances are of winning!  You have until Monday, February 11th at midnight CST to comment.  The winner will be announced on the Whimsy blog on Tuesday, February 12th.

ThermOWeb is also offering a gift certificate, so be sure to visit their blog each day this week for more inspiration.  Leave comments on their blog for another chance to win!

Creepy Clowns Clear Stamps*NEW Quick Strips Die Set

Mazarine Butterfly Fairy

Hi Everyone and welcome back! I want to ask you a question today: What inspires you when coloring or crafting? I think we all fall into slumps and lose some of our crafting mojo once in a while. So how do we pull ourselves out of it? Well, I was super busy the last couple weeks with my kids heading back to school, and honestly, I was in a creative fog. Seriously, I had nothing!

So I wandered into the craft room, and I began by cleaning and organizing for a few minutes. Then I pulled my Whimsy stamps and die tub out, and started flipping through - just to see what caught my eye... And there was ... Mazarine! A sweet little fairy stamp I purchased a couple of months ago, and from the moment I first saw her I thought she looked like a cute ladybug with her wings ready to take flight and spread special wishes with her magic wand.

Now, I'm going to admit that I am a little intimidated by coloring with Copics, because I just started practicing in the last year or so. Two of the most challenging color families are reds and blacks, and of course a ladybug is, well,  red and black. So again I needed a little inspiration; Pinterest to the rescue! (You can see my Inspirational Images board HERE.) I found an adorable picture of a ladybug taking flight with her wings spread, and that was all of the inspiration I needed to begin coloring my Mazarine.

So what do you think? The card techniques are pretty basic, so I won't go into the steps today. I mostly wanted to begin the conversation of how we find inspiration. Do you look for pictures? Flip through your stash? Share your thoughts and ideas in the comments. I can't wait to see what inspires you! Love and crafty hugs!
Erin
