31 Nights of Halloween Night 31 - Hourglass and Winners Announced!

HAPPY HALLOWEEEEEN!
It's my favorite day of the year, and I'm excited to announce all of the winners from our 31 Nights of Halloween event!
THANK YOU to all our awesome customers who entered, shared, and participated in our spooktacular festivities.

And what better day to share with my fellow Halloweeners one of my favorite cards.
Keep reading to the end for a link to all the winners from our 31 Nights of Halloween Give-a-ways!

This card came together super easy using the slimline SurREALLY Cool Halloween papers, and the killer cool new slimline Hourglass die.

I trimmed the (girl) SurReally Cool Halloween paper down to 2.75 x 8.25 and added it to a black card base. Prepping for my shaker card, I trimmed the sunburst paper down to 3.25 x 8.25 and used the slimline Hourglass die to cut out the hour glass shape from the center. Then added clear acetate to the back and then foam tape all the way around the hourglass shaped opening, making sure there were no gaps/openings that would allow any shaker pieces to escape.

I die cut the black spindles, the hourglass topper, and the hourglass base pieces twice each and glued the matching pieces together to make them each two layers thick. I like the stability and dimension of stacking dies and I typically do that with all my die cut pieces often even more than two layers.

Once I had them stacked I added some foam tape to the back of all the pieces (except the two feet). For the two feet I just kept those a single piece each because I didn't need the dimension for those.

(*I fully assembled the hourglass before adding it to the card front.)

On the card base I added the Sprinkletz shaker pieces that I wanted toward the bottom of the girl, then placed the foam backed sunburst hourglass piece on top. Then carefully placed the fully assembled black hourglass to the front.

My final step was to add the black feet using tweezers to easily tuck them underneath the base.

This is just one of the many ways to assemble/use the Slimline Hourglass die, there are so many cool options for this die, I hope you find it as fun and easy as I do. And I hope you have a HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Until next year my friends...Mwaaaahahahaaa!

31 Nights of Halloween - Night 30 - Special Guest Kulbir Kirkland

Good evening, Whimsy friends!

Tonight we welcome back the lovely Kulbir Kirkland for some creepy inspiration.

Hello friends I am so excited to back as a guest designer for Whimsy Stamps 31 Days of Halloween. I have always wanted to create a spooky tombstone ectetera tag. The Grim Reaper stamp set was so perfect for it.

I used the small tombstone etcetera tag and covered it it with gesso. After it had dried I started layering on hickory smoke , pumice stone and a little bit of black soot. After a couple of coats I added on some translucent grit paste and some crypt grave paste.

I added on some crackle paste for added texture. Using collage medium I started gluing pieces together and clamping them in place...yes I raided my husband's workshop :) I stamped the grim reaper onto the tag only because I could cut all the cool little bits on the bottom of his robe. I stamped the image onto a piece of distress water color paperwork and fussy cut it.

I colored the grim reaper with my distress inks and layrered it on top of the one I had stamped. I don't think I really needed to stamp it onto the tag since the smoke was covering the bottom of the reaper. Always learning :) I really wanted the illusion of smoke so I got some batting and sprayed it with hickory smoke oxide spray and glued it in place. For the R.I.P I wasn't able to stamp on top of the paste so I ended up embossing it onto clear acetate and put it in between the cross and the top frame. For the sentiment I used silver cardstock and stamped it with archival ink and ran it through with Tim Holtz Foundery embossing folder.

To finish off the tag I used some moss and glued it in random spots. I had so much fun putting this tag together. Hope you liked this project and if you give it a try, please do share. Happy Halloween my crafty friends.

31 Nights of Halloween - Night 28

Hi there, Dawn here from the Video Design Team. I'm so glad to be back on the Whimsy Stamps Blog for the Annual 31 Nights of Halloween Blog Celebration. Hope your enjoying all the Spooktacular fun Halloween Cards.

Today, I'm sharing how I made this HOWLING Scary Halloween card. You'll love how easy it is to make this card. I used the Whimsy Stamps Howling Night Die Set. I die cut the wolf, cemetery, top of the cliff and the scary tree branch from black card stock.

I die cut the moon and the cliff from white card stock. I used some Distress Oxide Inks and my blending brush to color the moon in. First, used a very light amount of Distress Oxide Fossilized Amber to ink blend the whole moon. Then, I lightly went over the edges of the moon and the middle with some Distress Oxide Black Soot. To finish off the moon, I took a small amount of Distress Oxide Hickory Smoke and went over the black soot with it.

I ink blended the white cliff with some Distress Oxide Hickory Smoke and then used the blending brush with the Fossilized Amber on it to add a little here and there over the Hickory Smoke. I didn't add any extra ink to my blending brush because I only wanted to add a small amount.

Next, I take some White Pigment Ink and lightly go around the bottom edges of the top of the cliff. (the pointy edges that hang over the cliff).
Then, I take the same white pigment ink and light put a small amount on the top of all the pieces of the graveyard.

I take one of the Whimsy Stamps Slimline SurReally Cool Halloween Papers (the one with the trees) and I use that for my background. I adhere the moon to the top left hand corner and then I cut the scary tree branch down and adhered it over the moon.
I adhered the cemetery to the bottom of the card leaving a space in the top right hand corner to slide the cliff behind it. Then, I adhere the cliff overhang onto the cliff and adhere the wolf onto top of the cliff.

I stamp the sentiment "BEWARE" from the Whimsy Stamps Trick or Treat House Stamp Set in black ink onto the card.
I cut a piece of white card stock to 8" x 7" and scor it at 3 1/2". I trimmed the card front down to fit the white card stock and then I adhered the card front to the folded card stock.

That will complete my card today.

Thanks for stopping by and have yourself a wonderful day!

31 Nights of Halloween - Night 27 - Special Guest Vyvie Nguyen

Good evening, Whimsy friends!
Tonight we welcome the lovely Vyvie Nguyen back for some Halloween inspiration.

Vyvie used the Halloween Postage stamp set to create this spooky bookmark.

First, she created a mixed media background using distress inks on plain, white cardstock.  She stamped the spider web image and some sentiments from Halloween Postage and embossed them in gold.  She filled in the background by stamping the small, solid spider from the set in black.

For her focal image, she stamped the larger spider from Halloween Postage, colored it and fussy-cut it.  She stamped a sentiment from the set, trimmed it and added it to the bookmark.

She backed the panel with a patterned paper from her stash and finished with some colorful yarns and ribbons.

Thank you, Vyvie, for this fun inspiration!

Whimsy Stamps is more than stamps.  They have an amazing selection of unique dies which were used to help make this decor piece today.

The gravestones, cats, fencing and accessories were created using The Build-a-Graveyard die set designed by Deb Davis from Amped2Stamp.
