Hello crafty friends! Ashley Dearie here and I’m so honored and excited to be a guest designer for Whimsy Stamps’ 31 Nights of Halloween Celebration! Tonight I’m sharing with you a simple, spooky Halloween creation using Whimsy’s Build-a-Pumpkin Patch die set. I love the versatility of this set that can take you from early fall, through Halloween, and all the way to Thanksgiving! And to make it extra spooky, it can be paired with the faces of the Halloween Expressions Stencil.
I love non-traditional colored pumpkins, so I chose to make mine stand out in pink, aqua, and, of course orange! To make them more three-dimensional, I die cut two in each color, trimmed out the inner portion of one, and added it to the front of the other with foam tape. I sponged a little coordinating ink to the edges for even more dimension and added a little splattering of black and silver opaque watercolor paint. I trimmed off the stems and vines from the top of each colored pumpkin and then backed each with a full, black pumpkin for the stem and vine.
I situated my pumpkins on a spooky, slimline background of Bristol Smooth cardstock ink-blended with Distress Oxides Hickory Smoke and Black Soot and sprinkled with a bit of water. I added a line of black grass using a die similar to the Grass and Cloud Edger die set, a few black die cut leaves rimmed with Distress Oxide Hickory Smoke ink and a bit of white gel pen highlights. For the final touch, I added an apropos sentiment from the Digital Haunting Halloween Sentiments, but instead of printing it, I imported the image file into Silhouette Studio and cut it out using my Silhouette Cameo to make solid-white, paper letters. Digital stamps are SO versatile!
Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you enjoyed this little card and that it inspires you to create some spooky fun! Stay tuned for more amazing Halloween creations every night this month!
