31 Nights of Halloween - Night 15 - Special Guest Tonya Brooks

Tonight we welcome Tonya Brooks back to the Whimsy blog!

Tonya's card features the adorable Freddie stamp. She created a spooky scene for her dragon witch with the Tree Silhouette and Halloween Postage stamps.

  1. Start by inking watercolor paper with the following Distress Oxides: Squeezed Lemonade, Carved Pumpkin, Crackling Campfire, and Faded Jeans. Start with the Squeezed Lemonade and work up to the Faded Jeans making sure to blend each color into the next. Spray the background with water until you get the desired speckled effect then dry your background or set aside to dry. Next, ink the Tree Silhouette stamp with Koala Gray Stazon and stamp it onto the inked background making sure you center it to get all the colors from top to bottom. After stamping the trees, trim around the stamped image. With the Jet Black Stazon, stamp bats from Halloween Postage onto the background.
  2. Stamp Freddie and images from Halloween Postage (witch hat, headstones, jack-o-lanterns, boo, and owl; the broom is from a set in my stash) in black Stazon onto watercolor paper. Cut out the images (I used my ScanNcut to cut mine out, but you can fussy cut them) and color with watercolor pencils and a water brush. Let the images dry. For the headstones I used a Serrated tracing wheel to add the bumpy texture.
  3. *If using a broom image- Cut a small slit at the top and bottom of the dragon's hand just big enough for the broom handle to fit, then slide it through the slits to make it look like she is holding the broom.
  4. To assemble the card, start by gluing the tree background to the black card stock making sure to center it and then glue the decorative card stock to the card front, centering it. Then glue them together. Next, glue the ground piece (you should have cut this from a die or free hand from black card stock) onto the bottom of the tree layer making sure to center it.
  5. Last step is adding the remaining images to the card front. For the dragon I trimmed some of her hair off the top of her head so it wouldn't stick out from the hat then I glued her in place and added the hat. For the owl I cut the vertical part of the tree off so that only the part it is sitting on is left then glued that to the card and added some gems to owl's eyes. I added some crinkled fishing line, some pearls I colored with a Spectrum Noir marker and a black bow that I topped with some small paper flowers.  I decided not to add any additional sentiment to the front because I didn't want to take away from the scene, but you can add one if you prefer.

Hope you enjoy this card and have a Happy Halloween!

  3. Wow those 🌳🌳🌳trees really do add to the spooky effect in the background with the bkending. I like all the added details and how unaware that Dragon looks in the woods! Although he breathes fire so I guess he is pretty safe! Great scene card!
