Fresh Friday - Bonus Inspiration

It's Friday on the Whimsy blog and that means it's time for Fresh Friday where we take a look at a collection of products that change out every two weeks and give you some fresh inspiration.

Since there are 5 Fridays in May, we have an extra week of inspiration using this great group of products that we've been featuring for the last 2 weeks.

BONUS - our Fresh Friday products will now be 20% off during the 2 weeks that they are featured.  There is no code needed as they are already marked down. Woohoo for a great sale!

Here are the 6 products that are being featured today.

Bev is on hand with a beautiful Slimline card today.  We are in love with her gorgeous pastel ink blended clouds and the fun scene she has created above the fairground. In addition to the Happy Sky and Happy Sky coordinating dies, Bev has also used the Happy Large Word die.

Lisa has a super fun card to share also today. Her ink blended background going from light to dark blue is the perfect backdrop for her brightly colored balloons. She's used the Happy Sky and Happy Sky coordinating dies along with the super fun Slimline Postage die.

That's all for today but don't forget, we will be back on the Whimsy blog next Friday with a whole new collection of great products to feature.

Special Guest - Kelly Martin

Hey, everyone! It's Kelly and I'm finishing up my guest design projects for Whimsy Stamps. I've had so much fun creating with these beautiful products! For my final project today, I used the Peony Flower Die and a few different inks from Catherine Pooler Designs as my watercolor palette. I began by smooshing the Party Dress and Sauna inks down to my work surface and then sprayed them with water to get the color moving.

I cut out the floral pieces from watercolor paper and then laid them down into the pool of watercolor I'd created on my work surface. I moved them around in different directions to get some variation in the color, waited for them to dry a bit, and then ran them through the pool of watercolor again to get some additional layers of color. After they dried completely, I splattered some more concentrated drops of the ink on to the flowers and then set them aside.

I repeated this watercolor process with the leaves, using Grass Skirt and Eucalyptus inks. After the die cuts were dry, I arranged them on to a cut and scored 4.25 x 5.5 inch card base, using foam tape to pop up some of the parts of the flowers to give added dimension and fullness to the arrangement.

To finish off the card, I used a few stamps from the You're Too Kind stamp set to create the completed sentiment! Thank you so much for stopping by again to join me in taking a look at these cards! Happy crafting! Kelly

Tuesday Tutorial - Vellum Focal Point

Hello, Whimsy fans!  Today I'm going to show you how to use vellum to create a focal point.

I love patterned paper but sometimes the pattern is busy enough that it can be hard for the eye to focus on the image(s).  Check out the pic above.  Cute but the Christmas Tidings images are a bit lost on the Mermaid 6x6 Paper.

I cut out a piece of vellum using a Wavy Nested Frames Die and lightly brushed it with blue.  Just that tiny bit of color and translucent paper helps the eye to focus on the main images without losing the cuteness of the patterned paper beneath!  I like how the wavy edges mimic those of the Wonky Stitched Rectangle Die too.

Next I colored up the images using Copics with colors drawn from the paper. Notice the sentiment is stamped partially on the vellum. Super cute!

I hope you're inspired to try this and am looking forward to seeing the results!  If you'd like to check out my other creations, you can visit my blog, Frankie Helps Craft, my Instagram, or my Pinterest Board.

Be sure to check out the new goodies in the Whimsy shop too!
