12 Days of Christmas Day 10 special guest Kittie Caracciolo - Build a Poinsettia

Good morning.  I love poinsettias!  My mother’s flower shop was always packed with them during the holidays.  I learned my love of floral design from mother and love being able to use my skill to create floral projects on my cards.  I made this card for the Whimsy Stamps 12 Days of Christmas event using the Christmas Branch Die Set and Build a Poinsettia Die Set.  I can’t tell you how much fun I had creating this wreath with the poinsettias and all the beautiful pieces of foliage and berries stems from the branch set. Thank you Whimsy Stamps for asking me to guest for your special event.

I started by cutting several of all the different foliage and berry sections using green cardstock. I cut the twig sections using Kraft cardstock and I colored them with Antique Linen  ink using a mini applicator.   I applied white and red Nuvo Crystal Drops to the holly and mistletoe berry pieces and set them aside to dry.  I applied several tiny drops of yellow Nuvo Crystal Drops to a piece of non-stick craft sheet to use for the poinsettia centers and set aside to dry.  I cut a 2.50” circle ring using Nestabilities Classic Circles to form the wreath base.  I cut red and green sections of the poinsettias. Each poinsettia has three red and one green section.  I formed the flowers using my stylus and molding pad to add dimension.  Check out my Poinsettia Tutorial if you would like to see more details of how I create my flowers.

The white card base is 5.50” square.  The red layer is 4.75” square, the white is 4.50” square and they were attached together using ATG adhesive and then attached to the card base using mounting tape.  The wreath ring base was attached to the center of the base using glossy accents.  I started building the wreath base by applying full sections of the holly all the way around the ring and attaching with glossy accents.  Once the holly base was in place I attached the three poinsettias using glossy accents.  I filled in around the poinsettias using smaller pieces of holly and mistletoe attaching them in place with glossy accents.  Once I was satisfied with the fullness of the foliage around the flowers I began tucking the twigs, holly and mistletoe berry sections in between and attached with glossy accents.   I finished by attaching the yellow drops in the flower centers using glossy accents.

I may have gone a little overboard with the  twigs, holly and mistletoe berries but I love the rustic old-fashioned feel of the wreath design.
Thanks for coming by today and I hope you have a wonderful day.  Be sure to stop back here tomorrow for another special guest 12 Days of Christmas post.

Dina here again welcoming you to Day 9 of the Whimsy Stamps 12 Days of Christmas blog celebration.  I'm happy to share with you today a tutorial and it's one that I know I'll be using throughout the year! It's called Shaving Cream Sparkle - it's a much more controlled shaving cream technique than the classic one done with reinkers.

I have this gorgeous scene builder set from Whimsy Stamps called Winter Wonderland - I started off by stamping the trees and deer on watercolor paper and embossing them in white. The embossing resisted the background technique, which was exactly what I hoped. I also cut a mask for the hill using a curved border die from the Stitched Border Trio set.

The background has several layers of inking, and then stamping and more embossing - I used a stamp from the Christmas Scene Builder set to add in the snowy effect, first with the purple Oxide ink and then with white embossing.

For a little more dimension, I added some raised dots in the snow - I actually did a little old-school dry embossing, using an embossing folder, stylus, and my light pad, just adding the dots to open areas. Remember the old days, with the templates and light boxes? Good times... and still a way to be selective in adding embossed designs to a panel.

Come over to the Falliday Fest Challenge Forum for all the details!  And be sure to stop back here on the Whimsy Blog for another special guest 12 Days of Christmas post too!

Thanks for stopping by!

12 Days of Christmas Day 8 - special guest Kay Miller - Snow Flurry

Hi there! It's Kay again and I'm excited to share with you another Whimsy Stamps 12 Days of Christmas post.

For today's card I used a beautiful set from the October Whimsy Stamps Release called Snow Flurry designed by Deb Davis

So for the background here, I stamped the pretty snowflakes in different Distress inks onto Master's Touch watercolor paper. I then took a wet brush and went around the edges of the stamped images to soften them and give them a watercolored look. After it was dry, I speckled it with each color of the different inks that I had stamped the snowflakes in.

I aslo stamped a couple of the snowflakes in the same colors and cut them out with the Snow Flurry Dies. I added those to my watercolored panel with foam tape.

For the sentiment, I embossed it onto some dark gray card stock with white embossing powder. It looked a little plain to me, so I also speckled it with some white ink too. I adhered those to my panel with foam tape. And lastly I added some clear sequins.

12 Days of Christmas Day 7 - special guest Joy Taylor - Christmas Elf

I am enjoying guesting for this lovely company, if you haven’t had a chance to check out Whimsy Stamps amazing range of stamps and dies then take a wander over to their SHOP and peruse the amazing collections..
Whilst you are having a look around, be sure to head back here to the blog for loads of inspiration from their design team..
I chose to create a card around the fun stamp called Christmas Elf, talk about cutie pie to colour up...
I then die cut around the stamped and coloured image and placed it onto some pattern paper..
I then went to the die cutting machine and in hand some white card stock that I ran through my die cutting machine several times die cutting the holly branch from the Christmas Branches set, adding each of these die cuts onto a panel of white card stock, giving the look of embossing…
I added my sweet little Christmas Elf and my card was complete..
I wanted to add a sentiment but felt the Elf himself could stand along and I could add a sentiment on the inside..
Be sure to come back here tomorrow for another special guest 12 Days of Christmas post.  And once again, thank you Whimsy Stamps for having me again this month!
Merry Christmas!
Hugs
