Special Guest - Mayra Duran-Hernandez

 

 Hello everyone! Happy Thursday. Mayra here from Mayras Designs with my second post as a guest designer for Whimsy Stamps. I am so happy to be here. I have a super fun mermaid-themed shaker card to share with you. I used the beautiful Mermaid Birthday stamp set along with the Wavy Nested Frames die set. 

I have two versions of the same card. On the top one, the mermaid on the right has a colorful tail like the mermaid on the left. The second card has the mermaid's tail colored in just two colors. 

I started by coloring the mermaids, little fish, and coral images with Copic markers. I used E50, E51, E21, and E23 for the skin. For the pink/peach areas, I used R22, R21, RV42, R30, and R00. For the mint areas, BG13, BG11, and BG10. For the green, I used YG11, YG01, and FYG2. 

Next, I die-cut the panels I would use to create the shaker card. I added color to two of the layers using Cracked Pistacchio, Peacock Feathers, and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide inks. I then stamped the sentiment from the set using black ink onto the front layer of the shaker card.

Wavy Nested Frames

2 for 1 Cards with Alcohol Inks and Lift- Ink

 Hi friends! Alanna here and I'm super excited to be on the Whimsy blog today sharing this fun technique using alcohol inks which are so fun to work with as well as Alcohol Lift-ink.

Here's a look at both of the cards we will be making today. We will be using some fun goodies from the Whimsy Stamps shop which are all linked at the end of the post and they are also mentioned throughout my post.

I started by using a few colors of alcohol inks in aqua and green colors to create my background onto some Yugo paper until I was happy with the results. 

I let it dry for just a few minutes and then put my Spring Flowers Background stamp into my Misti and inked it up with the Alcohol Lift-ink. 

I stamped it directly on top of my alcohol inked background. I then took a clean paper towel and carefully blotted the background to pick up some of the ink. What you're left with is a ghost like impression of your stamp. The lift ink has removed the alcohol ink from the surface of the background.

I removed this background from my Misti and inserted a piece of plain white card stock. I then stamped the background onto the card stock and this is what I was left with. I love that you get two backgrounds for the "price" of one and of course, they both have a completely different feel and look to them.

Now that both my backgrounds are done, it was time to add them to card bases and do my stamping. I knew I wanted to let my backgrounds still be the focal point so I wanted to keep my stamping minimal. 

For my first card, I added the alcohol inked background where we lifted off the Spring Flowers Background onto an aqua card base. I then stamped the Bouquet image directly on top of it. I finished off the card by stamping one of the sentiments from my favorite sentiment set, the Simple Sentiment Strips set that was released a couple of months ago.

For my second card, where we added the alcohol ink that was lifted off to white card stock, I die cut it using the largest die from the Wonky Stitched Rectangles die collection. I then took the same Bouquet stamp and Simple Sentiment Strips set and stamped them onto my card. This was added to an aqua card base.

Giada's first creation used the sweet 'Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful' from our Sassy Cheryl Collection and how sweet is this creation, she looks so carefree and happy, I just love this gorgeous image and her super sweet creation.

Giada used the super fun 'Evil Kitty' image from Dustin Pike to create her second design and oh my goodness, how fab is this?! I LOVE her take on this image, utterly fab! He looks totally lovestruck!

For Giada's final creation, she chose this adorable 'Cute From Any Angle Bunny' from Crissy Armstrong and coloured this cutie with pencils. I LOVE the soft finish she achieved on this creation, it's absolutely fabulous. How cute would this be for a New Baby card?!
